Firewood Cutting and Splitting After Tree Removal in Chesterfield, VA
Situation
Select Tree Removal LLC was contacted by a homeowner in Chesterfield, Virginia, who had recently hired a tree service to remove a tree and leave the wood onsite. After seeing the size and volume of the logs, the homeowner realized that processing the pile into firewood would be more work than expected without the right equipment.
The customer hired me for hourly onsite firewood cutting and splitting, with plans to handle the stacking himself. Fortunately, the tree had been removed recently, so the wood was still sound and suitable for firewood for an indoor fireplace or outdoor fire pit.
Need Help Processing Logs Left After Tree Removal?
If a tree service has left logs in your yard that are too large or difficult to handle, Select Tree Removal LLC can help turn that wood into usable firewood. We offer hourly cutting and splitting for homeowners who want to make use of their existing logs rather than let the wood go to waste.
Whether you've inherited a large log pile after tree removal or simply underestimated the work involved, contact Select Tree Removal LLC for a fair estimate on firewood processing in Chesterfield, VA and surrounding areas.
Stacking, hauling, and disposal arrangements can be discussed based on your needs and the scope of the job.

Challenge
The pile contained a wide variety of logs, from large trunk sections to smaller limbs. Many pieces were twisted or knotty around branch junctions, and the logs varied considerably in diameter and shape.
The work also needed to be performed carefully around a newly seeded area of the lawn. The goal was to process as much usable wood as possible while minimizing unnecessary disturbance to the surrounding property.
The homeowner also asked me to remove a roughly 15-foot stub of a storm-damaged, dead tree in the rear woods.

Solution
I carefully arranged the heavier logs near the woodland edge, then cut the wood into manageable firewood lengths of approximately 14–18 inches. Once the cutting was complete, I began splitting the larger, suitable pieces, working steadily through the pile and prioritizing wood that could be processed efficiently.
I also removed the standing stub and cut the resulting wood into firewood-sized sections, leaving those smaller-diameter logs in the woods for the homeowner to split himself.
I then returned to the main log pile and continued splitting the usable wood within the agreed work period.
Firewood processing is offered by Select Tree Removal on an hourly basis, allowing the homeowner to choose how much work is completed during each visit. Once a job is complete, the homeowner could continue splitting the remaining material independently or have Select Tree Removal return to complete additional processing.

Result
The original three-hour work period was sufficient to cut and split all of the suitable wood in the main pile. Despite the variety of log sizes and the additional work involving the dead tree stub, the homeowner ended up with a substantial pile of split firewood ready to stack.
At the end I also raked all the woody debris and leaves into the wood line where the customer wanted it. I left one splitting block behind for the homeowner to use himself in the future, if needed.
I also provided guidance on storing and covering the wood, including avoiding unnecessary year-round coverage that can trap moisture and allowing the wood to dry properly before burning.
